JG SHADID is a composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and educator. His film compositions have earned him an EMMY NOMINATION. With his expertise in music history, theory, and guitar performance, his videos, hosted on YouTube’s REVERB channel, have been featured in THE NEW YORK TIMES, PEOPLE MAGAZINE, and CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND.
SHADID’S music ranges from cinematic folk, to minimalist piano, to ambient/experimental soundscape, to neo-classical composition. His STRING QUARTET NO. 1 “NOVA DECO” had its world premier in 2024, and is scheduled for international release in July 2025.
On the indie/americana/folk side of things, SHADID’S latest release FOLK CINEMA (2024) was received with praise from the industry and the press. Atwood Magazine calls it:
“a dreamy record of reflection and reckoning that aches with the warmth, weight, and wonder of life itself.”
JG SHADID has toured all over the U.S. Europe, UK, and Japan. And he is a pillar of the Chicago music community, as a co-founder/curator of The Red Room, and owner/proprietor of Gentle Bear Studio - both located in Chicago’s Bucktown neighborhood.
He composed the original score for the acclaimed feature documentary The Pedal Movie, which soared to #1 on iTunes.
His passion for music education has earned him notoriety on the internet with millions of views, and has taken him to Istanbul, Turkey, where he taught a music program to Syrian Refugee children through the KARAM FOUNDATION.

Part of JG Shadid’s expression is through the lens of minimalism. Inspired by mid-20th century composers, JG is drawn to repeating patterns, ambient textures, surrounded by cascades of color, and wrapped in felt piano phrasings.
His latest release in this realm ~ nil contend ~ contains two pieces, composed alongside meditations of the TAO philosophy of “not contending.”
Enjoy.
JG SHADID’s debut in this style was the 2021 release of the full length LP “HOLDING PATTERNS”
JG Shadid’s latest record of songs ~ FOLK CINEMA ~ was released in August of 2024, followed by a tour in Germany, Czechia, and Austria.
“a dreamy record of reflection and reckoning that aches with the warmth, weight, and wonder of life itself.”
